[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis International Airport will receive $1,383,415 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). This funding comes through DOT’s Voluntary Airport Low-Emissions (VALE) program, which is designed to reduce airport emissions and improve the air quality in and around the airport, and will be used to install newer, more efficient air conditioning units in three jet bridges.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced more than $650,000 in federal funding for Memphis through several Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grants for the Memphis Zoo and the Metal Museum. The Memphis Zoo was awarded two grants totaling $627,160 for facility upgrades and research projects, and the Metal Museum was awarded $26,000 to help digitize its archives.

“This infusion of federal funding will support and improve our city’s world-class zoo for all Memphians and help attract tourists,” said Congressman Cohen.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Memphis will receive $1,909,124 in federal funding to address the city’s backlog of untested rape kits following a successful grant application filed by Mayor A C Wharton’s administration. These funds come through the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI), a program created after Congressman Cohen successfully led the fight to increase federal rape kit funding by an additional $5 million during last year’s budget negotiations.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced a $759,476 federal grant for Drug Court, Juvenile Court, and Veterans’ Court projects in Shelby County. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) grant program and is aimed at reducing recidivism, improving court security, addressing substance abuse, and improving other reintegration-related issues.

“This funding will help fight recidivism, substance abuse, and mental health issues in Shelby County,” said Congressman Cohen.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced the Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded a five-year $42,167,173 contract to help the Dr. Benjamin L. Hooks Job Corps Center in Memphis provide no-cost career technical and academic training to nearly 300 students each term. The federal funding will be used to support 232 students aged 16-24 living at the Memphis Job Corps Center, which is one of the nation’s best-performing Job Corps Centers, and 55 non-residential students.
