WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) went to the House floor this evening to condemn the October 7 Hamas hostage takers and call for the immediate return of the hostages. In particular, he drew attention to hostages Noa Argamani and Hersh Goldberg-Polin whose fates remain unknown.
In his remarks, Congressman Cohen said in part that he was:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, today questioned expert witnesses at a hearing entitled “The Southern Border Crisis: The Constitution and the States.” The hearing established that federal law overrules state initiatives when it comes to immigration policy and that solving the immigration problem is not in Donald Trump’s best interests as he runs for president.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative for Political Prisoners, today expressed deep concern about the whereabouts of Russian dissident and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza. Kara-Murza had been serving a 25-year prison sentence for treason in solitary confinement in the Omsk region of Siberia but is no longer there, according to a lawyer who sought to visit him on Monday.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Ranking Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, and a longtime advocate of advancing aircraft safety, today wrote to Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Michael Whitaker asking him to have current aircraft evacuation standards reevaluated in light of the January 2 Japan Airlines Flight 516 collision with a Japan Coast Guard plane.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $475,675 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to study “Candidalysin: a key mediator of Candida vaginitis immunopathology.”

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that three Memphis-based arts organizations will receive $45,000 in grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Carpenter Art Garden will receive $10,000 to support the design and creation of a mural and a kinetic art installation. The Center for Transforming Communities will receive $10,000 to support the “Measuring Love Fellowship,” an arts research and multidisciplinary storytelling project.
