MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive two grants, for $245,700 each, from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. One grant will support research in trivalent live attenuated vaccines and the other will support research on Streptococcus pneumoniae.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) and Regional One Health officials will hold a press conference on Tuesday, January 23, to discuss the $1 million he secured last year and the $2 million he has secured in the current fiscal year for Regional One. Congressman Cohen, as a Shelby County Commissioner, cast the decisive vote creating the Regional Medical Center at Memphis (“The Med”), now known as Regional One.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) again today voted to avoid a federal government shutdown as Republican disunity and dysfunction required Democratic votes to prevent a catastrophe. This is the third time – after votes on September 30 and November 14 – when the House has had to take up temporary spending bills to keep the doors open.

The vote on passage was 314 to 108.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today applauded the Biden Administration decision to shorten the path to student debt cancellation under the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Program. Those students who borrowed less than $12,000 and have been in repayment for 10 years will have their entire debt cancelled next month without taking any action. The decision accelerates the SAVE deadlines by six months, making life-changing opportunities for student borrowers.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) asked the Department of Justice and its COPS program to come to Memphis in early September 2022 after the abduction and murder of St. Mary’s kindergarten teacher Eliza Fletcher and, days later, the shooting rampage by Ezekiel Kelly, some of which was livestreamed. WASHINGTON – Three years ago to the day that Donald Trump slapped Cuba with the designation of a State Sponsor of Terrorism as he was leaving the White House, Congressmen Steve Cohen today wrote to President Biden asking him to lift the resulting unnecessary economic sanctions. Congressman Cohen traveled to Cuba in 2016 with President Obama after he lifted sanctions and welcomed interaction with the Cuban people.
