WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today spoke in favor of and voted to advance the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act from the Committee to a House floor vote. The measure removes cannabis from the list of federal controlled substances, raises revenue from sales to reinvest in communities disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs and expunges the records of federal criminal marijuana offenses.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) last night sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking the administration and National Institutes of Health to make monoclonal antibodies more readily available to patients with COVID-19. MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced two grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) totaling $4,192,346 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).
The St. Jude grant for $1,077,000, from the National Cancer Institute, is for research on the progression of leukemia. The UTHSC grant for $3,115,346, from the Director's Office at NIH, is for radiobiology research.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today filed formal comments with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services opposing the block grant-style waiver for Tennessee's Medicaid program, known as the TennCare III waiver. The unhealthy waiver, granted by the Trump administration as it was leaving office without public comment, would be a "a devastating blow to Tennesseans who rely on Medicaid to meet their basic health needs." TennCare is Tennessee's Medicaid program.
