[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – The House of Representatives today approved an amendment to H.R. 22, the Developing a Reliable and Innovative Vision for the Economy Act (surface transportation bill) offered by Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Congressman Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), and Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) to provide local transit systems increased flexibility to enhance and improve Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit services.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis International Airport will receive $1,383,415 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). This funding comes through DOT’s Voluntary Airport Low-Emissions (VALE) program, which is designed to reduce airport emissions and improve the air quality in and around the airport, and will be used to install newer, more efficient air conditioning units in three jet bridges.

The airline industry has hit the brakes on its program to shrink the size of carry-on luggage “in light of concerns expressed primarily in North America.”

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the trade group representing most airlines, launched the initiative, called Cabin OK, last week. It would have shrunk the maximum size of luggage carried onto a flight by 21 percent.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Aviation, last night introduced the Carry-On Freedom Act to prevent airlines from reducing the maximum size of carry-on baggage as proposed last week by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a trade association representing the airline industry. Under the Congressman’s proposed legislation, airlines that charge passengers for checked baggage would be prohibited from reducing the size of carry-on bags they allow passengers to bring with them onto flights.
