February 4, 2015

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) joined Congressman Jeff Denham (CA-10) to introduce the bipartisan Pets on Trains Act, which would allow families and passengers to travel with domesticated cats and dogs on certain Amtrak trains. The bill, H.R.674, would also give Amtrak the flexibility to develop the details of their pet policy to best fit the service and their customers.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget proposal:

“President Obama’s budget is a positive vision for our nation’s future that will put us on a sustainable fiscal path. It will spur further economic growth by making critical investments to improve our roads and bridges—creating jobs in Memphis and around the country—and boost take-home pay for the middle-class while closing tax loopholes that allow the wealthiest one percent to avoid paying their fair share.”

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today released the following statement regarding Shelby County’s agreement with CSX Railroad to extend the Shelby Farms Greenway:

“The Shelby Farms Greenway, which has been paid for almost entirely with federal funding, will be an important recreational asset for Shelby County. It is a visible reminder of how the federal government can help make our communities more livable and more beautiful, and I am pleased with this agreement.”

Construction began Monday on the more than $17.5 million project to add a bicycle and pedestrian pathway across the Harahan Bridge.

The Harahan Bridge project is part of the $43 million Main Street to Main Street Multi-Modal Connector project. That 10-mile project will link Downtown Memphis with West Memphis, Arkansas with more walkable and bike-able streets, pathways, and trails.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – While speaking at today’s 8th annual University of Memphis Freight Conference, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced that the University has been selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) as the Southeast Regional Surface Transportation Workforce Center, along with nearly $1 million in federal funding to help launch the new Center. Congressman Cohen, who supported the University’s application for this prestigious selection that will help create jobs, is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
