It is important to provide all children and families access to a quality, affordable education and healthcare to help them secure a prosperous future. As a member of Congress, I have championed for legislation that makes it easier for Americans to balance work and family responsibilities, expands support for foster youth care, and serves the needs of children with special behavioral health needs and/or medical disabilities. I also firmly believe that assisting families in their pursuit of higher education is critical for our nation's growth and success.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $367,975 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for research into Human Serine Palmitoyltransferase Complexes.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $1,750,578 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for "Dissecting the role of NEU1-dependent de-sialylation in neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a staunch opponent of the Byhalia Connection oil pipeline planned to cross southwest Memphis neighborhoods, who has made the case about its potential harm to the aquifer supplying Memphis with drinking water to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and to both President Biden and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, expressed satisfaction and relief at news that the project has been abandoned.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $215,816 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for work on training in the design and development of infectious disease therapeutics.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive two grants totaling $1,473,078 from the National Cancer Institute. One grant, for $742,807 is for research on patient-generated health data to predict childhood cancer survivorship outcomes. The other, for $730,271, is for integrating systems immunology with immunometabolism and cancer immunity.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis and Shelby County will receive grants totaling $7,855,982 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health. The City of Memphis will receive $3.9 million for the Memphis Fire Department's healthcare navigator program. Shelby County will receive $3,955,982 to help build public, academic and community partnerships in response to COVID-19.

Her "Ground Control to Major Tom" portrait of a boy in an astronaut suit, will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year along with winners of the competition representing other congressional districts.
