It is important to provide all children and families access to a quality, affordable education and healthcare to help them secure a prosperous future. As a member of Congress, I have championed for legislation that makes it easier for Americans to balance work and family responsibilities, expands support for foster youth care, and serves the needs of children with special behavioral health needs and/or medical disabilities. I also firmly believe that assisting families in their pursuit of higher education is critical for our nation's growth and success.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Albio Sires (NJ-08) today introduced the School Bus Safety Act, requiring school buses to be equipped with three-point seat belts, emergency braking system and other modern safety equipment. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois plans to introduce companion legislation in the Senate in the weeks ahead. Congressman Cohen is a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

In addition to $15.1 million in homelessness prevention grants in April
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Memphis Housing Authority will receive 190 housing vouchers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to prevent homelessness. The voucher funding comes from the American Rescue Plan President Biden signed into law in March.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Cohen voted for H.R. 1065, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. This vital bipartisan legislation expands the rights of working women by establishing the right to reasonable accommodations in the workplace for pregnant workers. It also prohibits employers from discriminating against pregnant applicants in hiring, retaliating against workers for requesting accommodation and forcing workers to take paid or unpaid leave if accommodations can be made instead.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive research grants from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The grant to St. Jude, for $448,750, is for work on interneuron circuits in the spinal motor system. The grant to UTHSC, for $154,000, is for genetic research involving mice.
