WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) early this morning voted for the American Rescue Plan Act, a major effort to address the coronavirus pandemic and its unprecedented economic consequences. The vote on passage at 2:04 a.m. was 219 to 212.

Davis (IL-07), Gwen Moore (WI-04), André Carson (IN-07), Donald M. Payne Jr. (NJ-10), and Karen Bass (CA-37), today introduced a bill to remove the name of former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover from the FBI Headquarters Building in downtown Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today introduced a measure to enforce Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment prohibiting those who have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States from holding public office.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis will receive $ $14,579,939 and Shelby County will receive $1,603,845 in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Both Memphis and Shelby County will receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding totaling $6.7 million and $1.1 million respectively and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) funding totaling $3.7 million and $430,000 respectively.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today went to the floor of the House to urge passage of The Equality Act (H.R. 5). The measure passed the House this afternoon on a vote of 224 to 206.

Bills aimed at improving police-community relations, diversity training

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE), also known as the Helsinki Commission, today participated in an international virtual meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Parliamentary Assembly and spoke of the need for repressive governments to promote freedom.

In his remarks, Congressman Cohen talked about the pernicious allure of drug abuse in repressive societies and a fact-finding trip he made to Belarus. He said:
