WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on the Courts, today participated in a hearing on "The Need for Lower Court Judgeships – 30 Years in the Making." Congressman Cohen focused his questions to the panel of expert witnesses on the need for more federal appellate court judgeships and importance of a diverse federal judiciary that fully reflects the American people.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Memphis Housing Authority will receive $6,869,040 and the Millington Housing Authority will receive $207,199 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Capital Fund Program.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today questioned expert witnesses about the treatment of African Americans during traffic stops. He noted that his Police Training and Independent Review Act, which was made part of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act last year, would address some of the problems associated with such stops.

WASHINGTON -- Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Joe Wilson (SC-02) today introduced the Holding Russia Accountable for Malign Activities Act in response to the poisoning and baseless jailing of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and other crimes against political opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) concluded that Russian opposition leader Navalny was poisoned with the Novichok nerve agent which can only be used by the Russian Federation.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Christian Brothers University will receive a $74,801 grant from the National Science Foundation for teacher education in the STEM disciplines.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"I'm pleased to announce this National Science Foundation grant to provide a stronger foundation in the teaching of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This is an investment that will pay dividends."
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today wrote to President Biden urging that he direct the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to rescind its recently issued nationwide permit to Valero Energy and All Plains American for its proposed Byhalia Connection Pipeline. This pipeline cuts through historic, predominantly Black neighborhoods and crosses over the Memphis Sand Aquifer which could potentially irreparably contaminate the City of Memphis' source of drinking water.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) two grants for ongoing medical research. The first, for $530,534, is from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for research of dysglycemia, or abnormal blood glucose levels. The second, for $1,519,716, is from the Department's Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, for improving cardiovascular health.
