MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced $64.6 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants to Memphis International Airport. The funding is for Phase 2 construction of an ongoing de-icing project and for improvements to jet bridges over three years beginning October 1. More than $2.3 million of the de-icing funding comes from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that became law in March.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the City of Memphis will receive a $38,011 Fire Prevention and Safety grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant is intended to reach high-risk groups and reduce injuries caused by fires.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Porter-Leath Head Start Programs will be receiving a grant of $1,207,183 from the Administration for Children and Families-Office of Head.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, this evening wrote to Attorney General William Barr asking that Memphis federal law enforcement officials be included in the Justice Department's body-worn camera pilot program. The request comes days after U.S. Marshals shot a Memphis teenager in an incident in which cameras were not in use.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today commemorated the 100th anniversary of the formal certification of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. Last week, on August 18, Congressman Cohen celebrated Tennessee's General Assembly vote in 1920 to become the 36th state to ratify the amendment, which gave it the required approval of three-fourths of the states. MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that three Memphis-area community health centers will receive a total of $612,293 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The centers -- Christ Community Health Services ($294,669), Memphis Health Center Inc. ($86,126) and Tri-State Community Health Center ($231,498) – received funding.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) and State Senator Raumesh Akbari (District 29) today condemned a bill signed into law last week that makes it a felony to protest on the grounds of the state Capitol. The measure also imposes mandatory minimum jail sentences for assaulting a first responder or participating in a riot. It also enhances penalties for vandalism of government property.
