This week, U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez came to Memphis and visited the Dr. Benjamin L. Hooks Job Corps Center, I announced more than $2 million in federal funds to help support research at the University of Memphis and St. Jude, and I continued my work to stop the excessive use of force by local police departments around the nation. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced 4 federal grants totaling $1,125,168 in funding for several projects at the University of Memphis. This funding comes through the National Science Foundation (NSF).
“I am pleased with this federal investment in the University of Memphis and their talented scholars,” said Congressman Cohen.
Today’s announcement includes funding for the following University of Memphis projects:
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced 3 federal grants totaling $1,187,971 in funding for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and will be used for a variety of programs and research projects.
“This funding will be used to continue important work at St. Jude, one of the world’s finest health care institutions,” said Congressman Cohen.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) will give remarks tomorrow afternoon at the investiture ceremony of new U.S. District Court Judge Sheryl H. Lipman, where Judge Lipman’s status as federal judge will be formally conferred. Congressman Cohen recommended Judge Lipman, who was serving as Chief of Staff to University of Memphis Interim President R. Brad Martin at the time, to President Obama to fill a vacancy on the U.S.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was awarded with the National Association of Community Health Centers’ 2014 Distinguished Community Health Advocate award this morning. Congressman Cohen accepted the award during National Community Health Center Week at the Memphis Health Center, which is expanding thanks in part to $4.7 million in federal funds provided by President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
