WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today released the following statement in recognition of Black History Month.
“Black History Month is a time to honor the courage, creativity, contributions, and resilience of Black Americans — and to recognize that Black history is American history. In Memphis, that legacy lives not only in the chapters we read in books, but in the leaders and neighbors who built a more just community and pushed our country closer to its ideals.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) wrote to Governor Bill Lee on Friday evening asking him to seek Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance for Shelby County for expenses incurred in response to the recent snowstorm. Congressman Cohen noted that the preliminary damage assessment of $4.7 million exceeds the minimum requirement for seeking the assistance.
The letter reads in part:
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today announced that Regional One Health will receive a grant of $499,996 from the U.S. Department of Justice for its Rx for Change comprehensive support services program for crime victims of gun violence and other violent behaviors.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today welcomed that more than $3 million in community project funding for law enforcement programs in Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District has been signed in to law.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a $758,781 grant from the National Instiute on Aging for research on novel pro-drug imaging agents to detect neuroinflammation in Alzheimers Disease under the direction of Dr. Kiel D. Neumann.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today voted against the annual appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security that contains funding for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today questioned former Special Counsel Jack Smith about his investigation and indictments of Donald Trump for conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election and illegal retention of classified documents.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today signed a discharge petition to bring the Restore Trust in Government Act to the House floor for a vote. The petition requires 218 signatures. The Restore Trust in Government Act would end the practice of Members of Congress, the President and the Vice President trading stocks.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday and Day of Service on Monday by encouraging everyone to read some of his stirring oratory and perform some community service in his memory.
