MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced that four Memphis-area airports will receive significant funding from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act passed in December providing nearly $2 billion in federal grant funding to help airports affected by COVID-19.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced a bill to provide preference to local contractors for work on or services provided at Department of Veterans Affairs facilities. The measure would benefit local economies by retaining companies that support local incomes.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Nationally Enhancing the Wellbeing of Babies through Outreach and Research Now (NEWBORN) Act to help address America's unacceptably high infant mortality rate with concrete solutions. If enacted, the bill would create infant mortality-focused pilot programs in the highest-risk areas of the country to help those most in need address this devastating crisis.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was sworn in today to the 117th Congress, beginning his eighth term representing Memphis, Millington and parts of Shelby County.
Congressman Cohen today also voted to again make Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi of California the Speaker of the House for this two-year Congress.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today joined his colleagues in a bipartisan vote overriding the President's veto of the National Defense Authorization Act. The measure contains vital provisions for our service members, addresses Vietnam-era veterans dealing with exposure to Agent Orange, and begins the process for removing the names of Confederate officials in the Civil War from our military installations, among its important provisions.
The vote, which required a two-thirds majority, was 322 to 87.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Porter-Leath Inc. will receive a $1,235,346 grant to operate its Early Head Start Programs in Shelby County from the Administration for Children and Families Office of Head Start.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today applauded the reversal by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) on its decision to outsource 108 Information Technology (I.T.) jobs. However, he expressed concern that TVA leadership only recognized the need to protect Tennessee jobs after Trump fired the Chair of the TVA on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON -- Monday, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) sent a letter to House leadership saying that the next COVID-19 stimulus package should mandate that lenders participating in the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) prioritize minority-owned businesses and require the disclosure of loan recipients to ensure accountability and compliance.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Christ Community Health Services Inc. will receive a $450,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services for postdoctoral training in general, pediatric and public health dentistry and dental hygiene.
