WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Albio Sires (NJ-08) today introduced the School Bus Safety Act, requiring school buses to be equipped with three-point seat belts, emergency braking system and other modern safety equipment. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois plans to introduce companion legislation in the Senate in the weeks ahead. Congressman Cohen is a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

WASHINGTON -- With lead hazards lurking in about 3.6 million homes of families with young children nationwide, Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09), Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Congressman David McKinley (WV-01) today introduced bipartisan legislation to help American families cover the cost of eliminating lead from their homes.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, the Paycheck Fairness Act, which closes loopholes and strengthens the 1963 Equal Pay Act, including providing effective remedies for women who are not receiving equal pay for equal work. The vote was 217 to 210.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis and Shelby County will receive a total of $15,103,245 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help create affordable housing for people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. The funding is part of $4.925 billion authorized by the American Rescue Plan that President Biden signed into law last month. Memphis will receive $13,545,982 and Shelby County will receive $1,557,263. This supplemental funding is being allocated through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today toured the Federal Emergency Management Agency-supported Community Vaccination Center at the Pipkin Building in the old Mid-South Fairgrounds this morning. The expanded center, which can vaccinate 3,000 people per day, was announced by the White House last week as part of a major Biden Administration effort to boost vaccine distribution and outreach. MEMPHIS -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Porter-Leath Inc. will receive a $1,235,346 grant to operate its Early Head Start Programs in Shelby County from the Administration for Children and Families Office of Head Start.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Memphis Housing Authority will receive $6,869,040 and the Millington Housing Authority will receive $207,199 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Capital Fund Program.
