WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), with bipartisan co-sponsors Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1) and Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO-5), today introduced the Cerebral Palsy Research Program Act which would create a cerebral palsy research program within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and provide the first-ever dedicated source of federal funding for cerebral palsy research.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today addressed the House of Representatives and urged passage of his bill, the Prohibiting Punishment for Acquitted Conduct Act. The bill later passed the House on a vote of 405 to 12.

Congressmen Cohen and Kelly Armstrong (N.D., at large) introduced the measure last year to end the unjust practice of judges increasing sentences based on conduct for which a defendant has not been convicted.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Joe Wilson (SC-02), the Co-Chairman and Ranking Member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, better known as the Helsinki Commission, today introduced a resolution condemning any potential use of weapons of mass destruction by the Russian Federation and calling on President Biden to declare that their use would represent crimes against humanity.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $473,819 grant from the National Eye Institute for research predicting the risk of glaucoma.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I am always pleased to announce research funding from one of the National Institutes of Health. This particular funding will help address glaucoma which disproportionately affects the African American community. I am sure it will result in better outcomes for patients."
