“I am very pleased to have Congressman Filner join me in the 9th District to discuss important issues related to veterans,” said Congressman Cohen. “Congressman Filner is the foremost authority on veterans issues in the House of Representatives, and in his role as Chairman of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, he has been a tireless fighter for veterans. During his time in Washington, he has won the praise of thousands of individual veterans and high accolades from national veterans' organizations. I have been proud to support each of his initiatives in the 110th Congress.”

“Today marks the fifth anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq. May we each take some time on this day to remember and honor our brave, fallen soldiers who gave their lives in service to their country. Military families still need our unwavering support and friendship during these times of hardship, so I encourage everyone to reach out to their friends, family members and neighbors with loved ones currently serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world.

“One of the most important reasons that I came to Congress was to fight against the culture of corruption in Washington,” said Congressman Cohen. “Last year, we passed the strongest ethics and lobbying reforms since the Watergate era in 2007, and now we have taken another step to allow an independent review of alleged ethics violations. For the first time in history, private citizens will ensure that credible allegations of wrongdoing by Members of Congress are examined by the House Ethics Committee.”

I believe that with this funding we can effectively and proactively slow the spread of this deadly disease in the 9th District.”
