[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Shelby County has been awarded two grants totaling $997,334 for crime prevention and safety programs. This funding comes through the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).

“These funds will help ensure Shelby County law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to keep us safe and bring offenders to justice,” said Congressman Cohen.

[MEMPHIS, TN] - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) released the following statement upon learning of the passing of community activist and wife of the late Judge Odell Horton, Evie R. Horton:

“Evie Horton was a beautiful and thoughtful lady who exuded goodness and grace,” said Congressman Cohen. “She loved her husband deeply and, after 50 years of marriage, honored his memory each day following his passing in 2006. Memphis has truly lost one of its most beautiful citizens. Evie Horton will be sorely missed by all.”

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis has been awarded a total of $1,535,129 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for four different projects.

“These funds will help continue the important work being done by the skilled researchers at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis,” said Congressman Cohen.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), today joined Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (VA-06), Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (CA-14), Subcommittee Chairman Spencer Bachus (AL-06) and Congressman Steve Chabot (OH-01) in introducing H.R. 3086, the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act. The legislation makes permanent a moratorium on the imposition of new taxes to internet access by state and local governments, which was originally enacted in 1998.
