WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) recently introduced legislation he authored to provide the needed funding for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to better coordinate the collection of statistics from the 2003 Standard Certificate of Birth by providing funding to states which cannot afford to implement these certificates. The measure – also known as the Birth Certificate Enhancement Act of 2011 – would also give the federal government the necessary funding to collect the data from the states.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the University of Memphis $292,294 for biological research related to deafness and communicative disorders. The new federal funds will be distributed through the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Memphis $4,232,594 for expenses related to disaster relief, long-term recovery, and infrastructure, housing and economic revitalization for the storm that took place in May 2010. Shelby County will receive $2,526,642.
