Tonight, I had the opportunity to watch President Obama’s first speech to the joint session of Congress, and I continue to be impressed with his eloquence and depth of knowledge on the issues. Our new Commander in Chief has had an eventful first month in office, punctuated by the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Today, President Obama signed into law his historic plan to create and save 3.5 million jobs and start to get the American economy back on track. No mission is more critical to the American people, and the President and Congress got this done just three weeks after his inauguration.

Today, I cast my vote in favor of H.R. 1 so as to provide jobs, help fund schools, provide for more cops on the street, green our country and fund health care for individuals and The MED. This was indeed an historic vote of large proportions, but the financial abyss in which our country finds itself necessitates that we try to avoid an economic depression.
