[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, today announced the Department of Justice is monitoring the state investigation of the death of Darrius Stewart, a 19 year old African American Memphis man shot by a Memphis Police Officer following a routine traffic stop last summer. The Department of Justice also indicated it would take appropriate action if civil rights violations occurred.

[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) today hailed Senate passage of legislation predominantly based upon the Enhancing Safety at Military Installations Act, a bill introduced by Cohen and Congressman Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) to allow members of the Armed Forces to protect themselves while on military bases and at recruitment facilities. The Congressmen introduced the bill in July following a deadly shooting at a Chattanooga, TN military recruitment facility. The bill was cosponsored by the entire Tennessee delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced $1,450,732 in federal funding for Chris Community Health Services and an additional $283,932 for the Memphis Health Center. Today’s funding comes through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Center Cluster and Health Infrastructure Investment Program grant programs, which aim to support primary health care services in underserved areas and allow health centers to better meet community needs, respectively.
