WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today offered an amendment to the FY 2013 Defense Department Appropriations bill to increase funding for Defense Health Programs by $235 million and decrease the Department of Defense budget by more than $260 million. Under the Cohen proposal, funds would be diverted from the Cruiser Ship program to health care programs like cancer research. The Cohen Amendment will be voted on by the House either later tonight or tomorrow.

The bipartisan measure -- the National Guard and Reservist Debt Relief Extension Act of 2011 -- was recently approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

MEMPHIS, TN – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today issued the following statement on the death of Colonel Moammar Gadhafi:
“Colonel Gadhafi has gone to a better place,” said Congressman Cohen. “It’s just a shame somebody didn’t put him in that place a long time ago.”
A friend of Congressman Cohen -- Jane Ann Morgan -- was killed on Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988. Colonel Gadhafi was responsible for the bombing that claimed 270 lives.
