WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $181,745 from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "ERI: Compositionally modulated ferrimagnets for spin-orbitronic devices." The research is under the direction of Shawn Pollard, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Materials Science.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today urged Committee colleagues to address violent felonies and support community policing. The remarks came during the markup of the Homicide Victims Families Rights Act.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today led a letter to President Biden, urging him to enforce his Executive Order to eliminate the use of privately operated detention facilities by the Bureau of Prisons and U.S. Marshals Service. This comes after new efforts of private prison companies to circumvent the Executive Order and retain federal prison contracts have surfaced.

MEMPHIS – On today's 58th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) remembered that terrible day and released a letter on assassination records that he recently sent to President Biden. He made the following statement:

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Kelly Armstrong (N.D., at large) today applauded the Judiciary Committee vote advancing their bill, the Prohibiting Punishment for Acquitted Conduct Act, to the full House. The measure would end the unjust practice of judges increasing sentences based on conduct for which a defendant has been acquitted by a jury.
