WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) returned to Washington and voted this evening for a $3 trillion measure to address the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the national economy. The measure contains funding for state and local governments, hospitals, first responders, our health care workers, testing, another round of $1,200 economic impact payments and increased spending for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), among many other things.

MEMPHIS -- Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 9th District. The winning artwork of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced $24,894,552 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act grants to four Shelby County Airports. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will provide $24,687,552 to Memphis International Airport and grants of $69,000 each to General DeWitt Spain Airport in Memphis, the Charles W. Baker Airport south of Millington and the Millington-Memphis Airport in Millington.

MEMPHIS -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) led a letter to Secretary of Defense Mark Esper condemning the dismissal of Captain Crozier, commander of the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt and calling for Captain Crozier's restoration of command.

The letter reads in part:

"The dismissal of Captain Crozier sends a chilling message to other commanding officers, if they take actions to protect their people. It is frightening to think that this chilling effect might unnecessarily cost the lives of servicemembers.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) will receive $35,687,809 in its Urbanized Area Apportionment from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that became law. The CARES Act directs FTA to allocate funding to prevent, prepare for and respond to the coronavirus through the existing Urbanized Area Formula Grants Program, Rural Area Formula Grants Program, and the Tribal Transit Formula Grants Program.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen today announced that Shelby County will receive a $5,291,497 grant for its Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"The Ryan White HIV/AIDS program has been successful in preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS and in providing treatment to those in need. This grant funding will help Shelby County provide needed care for those affected by HIV and AIDS, and will improve treatment outcomes for patients in Shelby County. It will continue to save lives."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis will be receiving $6,495,376 and Shelby County will be receiving $704,206 in Covid-19 related assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Residents of public housing and those receiving housing assistance are in obvious need as the coronavirus invades Memphis. This much-needed funding will ease some anxiety over household expenses like rent. I'm pleased that this welcome relief has come in a timely manner."
