WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $342,000 from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for research on gastrointestinal dysfunction.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I'm pleased our medical school researchers can continue their important work on the scourge of diabetes, which is so devastating to communities of color, including to residents of my district in Memphis."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) tonight applauded the inclusion of his priorities in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a measure providing for our national defense in the fiscal year that begins October 1. The measure, which passed the House 295 to 125 and for which Congressman Cohen voted, includes language that authorizes a $2 million multi-drone/multi-sensor intelligence program that will be housed at the University of Memphis.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today commended the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch for reducing plastic waste, including from plastic straws, and for including his report language request. That language encourages the elimination of all single-use plastic products including lightweight plastic carryout bags, food and drinkware from expanded polystyrene, plastic stirrers and plastic utensils. The House of Representatives is expected to consider this annual spending measure later this month.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a grant of $721,739 for research into inflammasome-mediated processes in cancer from the National Cancer Institute.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I'm pleased that St. Jude continues to work at the cutting edge of research on cancer cures. This grant is an important investment in the work its scientists and researchers do each day, and I commend them for their dedication."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a grant of $410,606 for research into cancer progression and metastasis from the National Cancer Institute.

"Our premier children's research hospital continues its pioneering work on cancer research despite the trying circumstances caused by the pandemic. I'm pleased this research funding will keep scientists and researchers in their labs working on important breakthroughs."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $1,334,467 for biomedical research from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, today applauded the inclusion of his bill, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Careers Act, in the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
