MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $500,813 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for medical research focusing on protein synthesis in ribosomes.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"This is a significant investment in basic research that is likely to advance our knowledge in molecular biology. I'm pleased that this funding will keep our St. Jude researchers working in their labs to make life-sustaining breakthroughs."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, today announced two National Science Foundation grants to Rhodes College. The first, for $267,970, is for the study of brain activity involved in body movement. The second, for $84,657, is for research promoting legal and policy collaboration in robot design.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, this evening wrote to Attorney General William Barr asking that Memphis federal law enforcement officials be included in the Justice Department's body-worn camera pilot program. The request comes days after U.S. Marshals shot a Memphis teenager in an incident in which cameras were not in use.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $559,327 from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for research into arterial stiffness and hypertension.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $253,379 from the National Eye Institute for research into glaucoma monitoring using an artificial intelligence dashboard.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced three National Science Foundation grants totaling more than $2.4 million to Memphis institutions of higher education. LeMoyne-Owen College will receive $999,555 for scholarships for students majoring in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) disciplines. The University of Memphis will receive one grant of $1 million for recruitment diversity and another for $413,482 for improving STEM learning.
