WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be awarding two grants totaling $9.9 million to two essential Memphis health care institutions.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive $5,000,729 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases to study influenza vaccination and immunity. As the premiere hospital specializing in fighting childhood cancer, this funding will allow for further groundbreaking research.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Steve Cohen voted to pass H.R. 1644, the Save the Internet Act, a bill he cosponsored, to restore popular, bipartisan net neutrality protections for consumers and small businesses after the Trump Administration ended these vital protections in a brazen, partisan attack last year. The Save the Internet Act passed the House by a vote of 231-190.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was the only member of the Tennessee Congressional delegation to receive a perfect score on the Defenders of Wildlife Conservation Report Card for the 2nd Session of the 115th Congress.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be receiving a $470,098 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to conduct research into schizophrenia.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"St. Jude is our premier medical institution dealing with childhood illnesses. I'm pleased to announce St. Jude will be receiving this substantial funding to continue its groundbreaking research to identify the causes of schizophrenia and the best ways to treat the complex disease."

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (D-TN), a senior member of the House Subcommittee on Aviation, today called on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ground 737 Max 8 planes until it can confirm that they are safe to fly. See his letter to Acting FAA Administrator Daniel K. Elwell here. Cohen's actions followed a deadly Ethiopian Airlines crash this week which killed 157, and a Lion Air crash in Indonesia in October.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center will be receiving a $418,000 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to conduct clinical research on neurological disorders. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the National Science Foundation has awarded a $252,934 grant to the University of Memphis for a multidisciplinary program for undergraduates in the Physics and Material Sciences program. The grant underwrites a summer program in which students will be immersed in research-intensive activities.
