It is important to provide all children and families access to a quality, affordable education and healthcare to help them secure a prosperous future. As a member of Congress, I have championed for legislation that makes it easier for Americans to balance work and family responsibilities, expands support for foster youth care, and serves the needs of children with special behavioral health needs and/or medical disabilities. I also firmly believe that assisting families in their pursuit of higher education is critical for our nation's growth and success.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $4,395,266 grant from the National Cancer Institute to conduct research on pediatric brain tumors.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"This is a significant investment in research that will ultimately save lives. I'm pleased to announce this funding which will keep the dedicated research scientists, lab technicians and doctors working on therapies and cures."

The measure contains funding for state and local governments, hospitals, first responders, our health care workers, testing, another round of $1,200 economic impact payments and increased spending for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), among many other things.

MEMPHIS -- Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 9th District. The winning artwork of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $410,606 research grant from the National Cancer Institute.

"I'm pleased that the important research St. Jude is famous for continues during this period of pandemic. St. Jude's work leads to cures and therapies for sick children. This funding will keep researchers working toward those goals."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Shelby County Board of Education will receive a $12,163,726 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to operate its Head Start programs.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Porter-Leath's Early Head Start programs will receive a grant of $1,185,657 from the Administration for Children and Families' Office of Head Start.

MEMPHIS -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) yesterday joined his colleagues in a resolution recognizing the harmful health disparities faced by minority communities during the coronavirus pandemic and urging immediate action to address the ongoing situation. The resolution will be introduced soon.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today wrote to Governor Bill Lee, commending his decision to recommend a statewide shelter-in-place for non-essential travel, but also urging him to make it mandatory in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic already evident throughout the Mid-South and to prevent a deluge of cases overwhelming Memphis medical facilities.
