It is important to provide all children and families access to a quality, affordable education and healthcare to help them secure a prosperous future. As a member of Congress, I have championed for legislation that makes it easier for Americans to balance work and family responsibilities, expands support for foster youth care, and serves the needs of children with special behavioral health needs and/or medical disabilities. I also firmly believe that assisting families in their pursuit of higher education is critical for our nation's growth and success.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health and urged its members to hold a hearing on his bill, H.R. 117, the Nationally Enhancing the Wellbeing of Babies through Outreach and Research Now (NEWBORN) Act. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Methodist LeBonheur Community Outreach will be receiving a grant payment of $1,050,000 in its ongoing teenage pregnancy prevention program, "Be Proud! Be Responsible!"
The funding underwrites the program through June of 2020.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for and the House passed H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act, whose Dream Act portion of the bill establishes a process for eligible immigrants brought to the United States as children to apply for legal permanent residency. The Promise Act portion of the bill provides a path to legal permanent residency for individuals who held or were eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) on January 1, 2017. The vote was 237 to 187.

"I'm pleased to announce this significant funding for important research that supports advances in identifying, treating and preventing disease. This funding will keep St. Jude at the apex of research into childhood illnesses."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be awarding two grants totaling $9.9 million to two essential Memphis health care institutions.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive $5,000,729 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases to study influenza vaccination and immunity. As the premiere hospital specializing in fighting childhood cancer, this funding will allow for further groundbreaking research.
