WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a staunch opponent of the Byhalia Connection oil pipeline planned to cross southwest Memphis neighborhoods, who has made the case about its potential harm to the aquifer supplying Memphis with drinking water to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and to both President Biden and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, expressed satisfaction and relief at news that the project has been abandoned.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $231,000 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health for research on extracellular vesicles-based drug delivery of antiretroviral regimen to target central nervous system HIV reservoirs.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, which has jurisdiction over voting rights, today introduced the John Tanner Fairness and Independence in Redistricting Act. The measure, named for longtime Tennessee Congressman John Tanner, would require states to take their congressional apportionment out of the political process and place it in the hands of independent redistricting commissions.
