WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Co-Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission, and the Commission’s Ranking Member, Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02), today introduced a resolution recognizing October 30 as International Day of Political Prisoners.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, today submitted a joint comment letter to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) seeking to ensure that it takes into consideration the demographics of all members of the flying public before promulgating a rule on minimum seat dimensions for airplane seats that are necessary for passenger safety.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (CA-18) today led a letter to the Public Interest Declassification Board seeking release of the remaining 14,000 documents associated with the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. They note that the public is skeptical about the official version of events and that the documents’ release would help restore confidence through transparency.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis-based Knowledge Quest will receive a $313,938 grant to support the Green Leaf Learning Farm, an organic direct-to-consumer operation, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the National Park Service (NPS) will provide grants to two Memphis-area projects as part of its Lower Mississippi Delta Initiative. One grant, for $3,801, will support a historic marker near the site of the 1911 lynching of Pat Crump “to bring public awareness to racial terror lynchings in Shelby County,” according to the NPS statement.
