[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today released the following statement on the Army Corps of Engineers’ decision to not issue a permit for the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline under Lake Oahe in North Dakota. The Army Corps of Engineers announced that it plans to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for alternative routes. The Standing Rock Sioux tribe and its supporters have raised concerns that routing the pipeline under the lake could contaminate the water supply for the Native American reservation.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Today the House of Representatives passed the 21st Century Cures Act by a vote of 392 to 26, which included the Ensuring Useful Research Expenditures is Key for Alzheimer’s (EUREKA) Act (H.R. 5073), a bill introduced in the House by Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Congressman John Duncan (R-TN) and introduced in the Senate by Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and others.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today praised Cargill, Incorporated and Calysta, Inc. for selecting Cargill’s 69-acre property on President’s Island in Memphis to house the world’s largest fermentation facility to produce Calysta’s FeedKind® protein, a family of sustainable, traceable nutritional ingredients for fish, livestock, and pets. The new facility is expected to come online in late 2018 and bring 160 new permanent jobs to Memphis.
