[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the National Statistics on Deadly Force Transparency Act, which would close a loophole in federal law that prevents adequate collection of comprehensive national data regarding justified and unjustified use of deadly force with police. Without accurate and comprehensive data, racial disparities, abuses, and instances of excessive use of force are difficult to identify and unlikely to be fixed.

Soring, the intentional infliction of pain on horses' feet and legs to achieve the high stepping pain-based, "big lick" gait, has plagued both the Tennessee Walking Horse breed and the great state of Tennessee for more than half a century.

The Steering and Policy Committee sets the Democratic policy agenda and nominates Democratic Members for committee assignments. In 2008, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi referred to Congressman Cohen as the "conscience of the freshman class." Congressman Cohen is the first Congressman from the Ninth District of Tennessee to serve on the committee since Harold Ford, Sr.
