WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today questioned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Stephen M. Dickson after evidence emerged that Boeing was aware of a safety design flaw regarding the angle of attack (AOA) disagree alerts in its 737 MAX aircraft but waited three years to address it.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Aviation Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today introduced the Safety is Not for Sale Act, legislation that would require air carriers to adopt additional safety features and ensure all non-required safety enhancing equipment is offered or provided to all carriers without an additional charge.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, today supported the introduction of two articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump. The articles, to be debated later this week in the Judiciary Committee, charge the President with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, the Voting Rights Advancement Act, which restores protections of voting rights gutted by a 2013 Supreme Court decision. As Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, Congressman Cohen conducted several hearings on this bill, including one at the University of Memphis School of Law in September. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $380,000 grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for research on diabetic vascular disease.

"Diabetes is more prevalent in Memphis and higher than the national average, so research into any aspect of the disease is good for Memphians. This research will strengthen our Memphis medical school and support critical research to fight this devastating disease."
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, today voted to advance the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act to the House floor. The committee vote was 24 to 10.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that two Memphis community development financial institutions (CDFIs) will be receiving grants from the U.S. Treasury Department totaling $500,000. Tri-State Bank of Memphis will receive $275,000 and River City Capital Investment Corporation will receive $225,000. The funds are intended to expand economic opportunities in economically distressed area and are provided to CDFIs devoted to offering affordable financial products and services in economically underserved areas.
