[WASHINGTON, DC] – On the 6th anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act into law, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today highlighted the many ways that the law is benefiting Tennesseans. The President’s Affordable Care Act, signed into law on March 23, 2010, ensures that no American can be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition, prevents insurers from charging more solely because someone is a woman, protects families from health-related bankruptcy, and provides access to free preventive care services for our seniors.

“I had a phenomenal experience in Cuba with President Obama and my colleagues. I was honored to be a part of the delegation on this historic trip. Cuba is a naturally beautiful country, and the Cuban people showed us great hospitality during our stay.
[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that he will pay tribute to his friend and Cuban baseball legend Minnie Miñoso (Saturnino Orestes Armas Miñoso Arrieta) during his trip to Cuba with President Obama on March 20-22. Miñoso, nicknamed “The Cuban Comet” and “Mr. White Sox,” played in the major leagues from 1949-1980, most prominently with the Chicago White Sox. He was the first Black Cuban in the major leagues, the first black player in Chicago White Sox history, and only the second black player to play in the American League after Larry Doby.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) this morning hosted a telephone town hall to answer his constituents’ questions about the issues facing Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District and the nation. During the telephone town hall meeting, the Congressman discussed a wide variety of issues including the 2016 omnibus federal funding bill; the federal highway funding bill to improve our roads, bridges, and mass transit; efforts in Congress to reform our criminal justice system; and assisting constituents with navigating federal agencies.
I will host a telephone town hall Tuesday morning, March 15, to answer his constituents’ questions about the issues facing the Ninth District and the nation, as well as my work in Congress. [WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) will be among a group of U.S. Representatives and Senators slated to join President Barack Obama on his historic trip to Cuba on March 20-22. President Obama will be the first president to visit Cuba in 88 years after announcing in 2014 that he intended to re-establish diplomatic relations with the country. In August 2015, Congressman Cohen joined U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and a bipartisan delegation of U.S. Senators and Representatives at the official re-opening of the United States Embassy in Havana, Cuba.
