MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee, headquartered in Memphis, will receive a grant of $184,000 for its newborn screening program from the Department of Health and Human Services.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Orion Federal Credit Union, a non-profit community development financial institution (CDFI), will receive $105 million from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Emergency Capital Investment Program. The credit union will also receive $213,497 from Treasury’s CDFI Fund Small Dollar Loan Program.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, today applauded the $1 million fine assessed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against former Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg for misleading investors after two crashes of the 737 Max airliner in Indonesia and Ethiopia that together killed 346 people.

WASHINGTON -- Today, U.S. Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09), Jared Huffman (D-CA), Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), Mike Quigley (IL-05), and U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) led a bicameral group of 58 members of Congress in a letter to the General Services Administration (GSA) in response to the agency’s potential rulemaking focused on reducing unnecessary single-use plastics in government purchases.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee who was in the House chamber when insurrectionists attempted to disrupt certification of the Electoral College vote on January 6, 2021, today voted for the Presidential Election Reform Act.
The vote on passage was 229 to 203.
