WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was named Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties today by the House Judiciary Committee.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) commemorated the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday Monday by participating in several Dr. King-inspired events. He also released this statement:
"On this 90th anniversary of Dr. King's birth, I approach the national holiday with both reverence for all he helped our nation achieve, and sorrow for what might have been. Dr. King helped transform our nation as a leader for Civil Rights, a Noble Peace Prize laureate, an anti-war activist, and one of our greatest Americans.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be receiving a $403,875 grant to conduct endocrinological research from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"St. Jude is always at the forefront of medical research on childhood illnesses and its employees contribute greatly to our community's cultural awareness and diversity. I'm pleased to announce this grant award to advance its important work."
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, the Disaster Supplemental Appropriations Act, providing $12.14 billion in emergency spending to meet the urgent needs of Americans recently affected by hurricanes, typhoons, wildfires and other natural disasters. The bill would also open up those agencies and departments of the federal government currently closed in the Trump Shutdown through February 8.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) went to the well of the House today to speak on behalf of a resolution condemning white nationalism and white supremacy, following controversial comments by Rep. Steve King (R-IA) in a New York Times interview.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded to Shelby County a grant of $6,671,979 from its Ryan White HIV Emergency Relief Program. Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"The Ryan White HIV/AIDS program has had exceptional success in stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS. This grant funding will help Shelby County provide needed care for those affected by HIV and AIDS, and will continue to improve treatment outcomes in Shelby County. It will save lives."
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, a bill to fund the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The bill prevents the further degradation of our National Parks and monuments and allows the EPA to resume its critical activities in protecting clean air and clean water. Tennessee's $55.5 million in EPA state grants are currently at risk because of the Trump Shutdown. The bill is virtually identical to one that passed the Senate in August by a 92-6 vote.
