WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be receiving a grant of $739,566 from the National Cancer Institute for cancer detection and diagnosis research.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"St. Jude is at the forefront of research into childhood cancers. It's critical that we continue to put resources towards improving ways to detect cancer earlier and therefore increase our number of survivors. I'm pleased this grant will advance those efforts."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today joined Representatives Kurt Schrader (D-OR-05), Ted Yoho (R-FL-03), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09) and Chris Collins (R-NY-27) in a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue asking him "to do everything possible to vigorously enforce the Horse Protection Act" as the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration begins in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced three health care-related grants totaling $200,759 to three Memphis health centers from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Memphis Health Center will be receiving $51,000, the Tri-State Community Health Center will be receiving $22,000 and Christ Community Health Services Inc. will be receiving $127,669.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Memphis will be receiving two grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services totaling $1,171,237. One grant, for $897,342, will go to an Opioid Workforce Expansion Program for Paraprofessionals. The other grant, for $273,895, will go to the Graduate Psychology Education Program.

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Memphis and Shelby County will receive grants totaling $799,048 from the Department of Homeland Security to make transportation infrastructure improvements to meet their maritime security and facility security plans. Memphis will receive $283,953 and Shelby County will receive $515,095.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today reacted to the 31 deaths and multiple injuries this weekend by shooters in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, with the following statement:

"The horrific killings in Texas and Ohio are yet another grim reminder that people with nefarious motives are getting access to weapons of war and using them on defenseless civilians as they go about their daily lives. Weapons of war have no place in the hands of civilians and background checks for purchasing guns must be thorough.

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, August 1, and Friday, August 2, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) will join Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) and a delegation of 22 additional House Members to investigate the impact of Trump Administration immigration policies in and around El Paso, Texas. Congressman Cohen will also participate in a press conference at 5 p.m. Mountain Time (6 p.m. Central Time; 7 p.m. Eastern Time) on Thursday, which will be live-streamed by the Democratic Caucus.
