“Senator Kennedy worked with Republicans, particularly Presidents Reagan, George H.W. and George W. Bush, and with Senator Orrin Hatch, to advance the causes he knew could make America better.

“The federal funding awarded to our district will have a lasting effect on the health and research facilities in Memphis and will help keep the Ninth District at the forefront of cancer research,” Congressman Cohen said. “Funding training for our nurses is critical in making sure they have all the tools they need while helping our community.”
Congressman Steve Cohen will be hosting a town hall meeting this Saturday, August 8 from 10 a.m. to Noon at BRIDGES, 477 North Fifth Street, Memphis, TN 38105. The Congressman’s entire staff from Washington, DC and Memphis will be on hand to answer questions or help Ninth District residents with a wide-range of constituent services offered by the federal government.

Congressman Luis Gutierrez, (D-IL) chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, joined Congressman Cohen in introducing HR 3149, The Equal Employment For All Act. This bill would give some of our most vulnerable, “credit challenged” citizens – students, recent college graduates, low-income families, senior citizens, and minorities – the opportunity to begin rebuilding their credit history by obtaining a job. Far too often, employers turn down “credit challenged” applicants because they have erroneously linked credit scores to potential job performance.
