[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Memphis has been awarded an $83,289 research grant that will help students obtain real-world field and laboratory experience. The funding will be used by the University to conduct research necessary to create more realistic simulations of North American climate variability.

MEMPHIS, TN -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was awarded a $437,500 grant for a vision research project. The funding was awarded by the National Eye Institute, which is part of the National Institutes of Health.

“This grant will help the talented doctors and scientists at St. Jude better understand one of our most basic human senses.” said Congressman Cohen.

[MEMPHIS, TN] –Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) announced over $2 million in grants to Memphis have been awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor. The City of Memphis Youth Build Program will receive $1.1 million for workforce development programs and the Memphis Leadership Foundation will receive $1 million for programs to help juvenile offenders.

“These grants will strengthen our local economy by providing education and assistance to those who need them most,” said Congressman Cohen.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) introduced a bill that would give Congress greater oversight of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA Court), the Court which is responsible for approving measures like the recently disclosed NSA surveillance programs.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today joined with Congressman Sam Graves (R-MO-6) to introduce legislation to prohibit discriminatory taxes on the rental of motor vehicles.

“During these tough economic times, state and local governments are looking to raise revenue. But there is no place for discriminatory taxes in business,” said Congressman Cohen. “These taxes raise prices for consumers and harm our local employers. This is an unfair practice that must stop.”
