Congressman Cohen is the author of the NEWBORN Act, which would establish 15 pilot programs across the country aimed at lowering the rate of infant mortality to promote research, education interventions, and access to prenatal care. The full text of the bill was included as Section 2532 of H.R. 3692, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

Congressman Cohen is the author of H.R. 1412, the Justice Integrity Act, which would establish a pilot program to study the real and perceived racial and ethnic disparities in federal law enforcement and the criminal justice system, and make recommendations to address any disparities or perceptions of bias that are found as a result of the study.

During the hearing, Congressman Cohen heard testimony from Mr. Harrison McIver III, the Executive Director/CEO of Memphis Area Legal Services, Inc. (MALS).

“Our nation’s electrical grid is in desperate need of modernization in order to meet the increasing needs of consumers. A catastrophic failure like the one we saw several years ago that plunged most of the Northeast into darkness can, and should, be prevented. The federal funding that President Obama announced today will begin the transition to a smarter, stronger, more efficient and reliable electric system,” Congressman Cohen said. “I commend MLGW for receiving this federal funding.

This afternoon the House of Representatives approved H.R. 3585, the Solar Technology Roadmap Act, which will strengthen the American solar technology industry through a coordinated research and development program and public-private partnerships.
