Congressman Cohen has announced that assistance is now available for storm victims from both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“Tobacco use continues to put a huge strain on the health care industry, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths each year in the U.S.,” said Congressman Cohen. “I am extremely grateful that St. Jude has committed members of their all-star scientific research team to investigate new treatments for nicotine addiction, and the HHS should be commended for recognizing their efforts.”

Congressman Cohen announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development is offering assistance victims of the recent storms.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide homeowners who are concerned with rising mortgage payments or foreclosure with timely, confidential information and objective advice from trained counselors. The workshop will also give homeowners an opportunity to meet with counselors individually to discuss their own circumstances and available options.

“I’m proud to be here and support this amendment with Congressman Cooper,” said Congressman Cohen. “In my district, LeMoyne-Owen College has struggled financially. It is an institution of long and historic importance to our community, and it has done a great deal for our city in educating young people and it continues to do so. This amendment would give LeMoyne-Owen additional help so they can continue to serve a mission that is unique in this country: providing quality, affordable higher education for the African-American community.”

Congressman Steve Cohen questions recently appointed Attorney General Michael Mukasey during a Judiciary Hearing on February 6, 2008. Congressman Cohen pressed the new Attorney General on whether he would enforce contempt citations against senior White House officials should the House of Representatives vote for such a measure. Congressman Cohen also asked about the current state of the so-called "War on Drugs."
