WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) commended FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, a career civil servant with the crime-fighting agency since 1996, and made the following statement:

"It's clear to me that Andrew McCabe is ‘stepping aside' because of the outrageous political pressure brought to bear by President Trump. If press accounts are to be believed, President Trump, once again violating accepted norms, asked McCabe who he voted for in 2016 and vented that McCabe's wife, a candidate for the state Senate and a Democrat, received money from Hillary Clinton supporters.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) commended Governor Bill Haslam for making the opioid crisis a top legislative priority this year and for placing the emphasis on prevention and treatment. Cohen made the following statement Tuesday:

"Governor Haslam's ‘TN Together,' a statewide program targeting an opioid crisis that is killing three Tennesseans a day, is a smart move and focuses on the right priorities – prevention and treatment rather than punishment. It's best to treat this crisis compassionately as a public health issue and address it with proven solutions.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) voted for the measure to re-open the federal government Monday. Afterward he made the following statement:

"Many of my constituents have government jobs and need government programs. A government shutdown makes it difficult for them to live day to day. If I had a wealthy district, it wouldn't have made as much of a difference. The tax cuts were already skewed to benefit them the most and they generally don't work for the government or rely as heavily on SNAP payments or other federal programs.
