WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) is working with colleagues to quickly re-open the federal government after Republicans in control of the House and Senate failed to reach agreement on a range of issues. He released the following statement:

"We need to open the government as soon as possible with an agreement that fully funds the Children's Health Insurance Program and meets other important priorities, including extending the Federal Qualified Health Centers and community health centers. Congress should also stop trying to undermine Obamacare.

MEMPHIS - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) mourned the death of longtime Memphis civic leader Jack Morris, who died Friday at 87. He released the following statement:

"I met Jack Morris during the Stan Snodgrass for governor race in 1970 and learned a lot from him over the years. He always seemed to have an ear and occasionally a bit of advice and encouragement for me.

"I want to thank his family for his service to Memphis and for the friendship he extended to me. His was a life of civic commitment and grace.

"I always recognize the Martin Luther King national holiday with a combination of admiration and solemnity. King was a giant of the 20th Century, a great non-violent Civil Rights leader, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, anti-war strategist and human being.
