WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a $433,349 grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences for a project entitled “Effect of ambient heat on chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease among U.S. veterans” under the direction of School of Public Health Assistant Professor Abu Mohammed Naser Titu.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) has been reappointed to the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe and will serve as its Ranking Member. Congressman Cohen continues to serve as the Special Representative on Political Prisoners after receiving that appointment from the President of the Organization on Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA).

He also denounced the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee field hearing Monday that focused on harming the reputation of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a state official who is prosecuting Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the Metal Museum, formerly the National Ornamental Metal Museum, will be receiving a $500,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for its continuing efforts.  The Metal Museum is devoted to exhibitions of metalwork and public programs featuring metalsmiths.  It is the only institution of its kind in North America and one of only a few in the world devoted exclusively to metalwork.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today introduced the John Tanner and Jim Cooper Fairness and Independence in Redistricting (FAIR) Act which would require states to take their congressional apportionment decisions out of the political process and place it in the hands of independent redistricting commissions. The measure is named after former Tennessee Congressmen John Tanner and Jim Cooper, both champions of legislation to end partisan gerrymandering.

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today recognized Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The observance begins at sundown today. As a state senator, Cohen sponsored, and the Tennessee General Assembly passed, legislation to create the Tennessee Holocaust Commission. A special part of its work is teaching teachers about Holocaust history. Cohen served as an ex-officio member of the commission during his tenure in the state senate.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $391,858 from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled “Collaborative Research: Costs and Trade-offs of Phenotypically Flexible Responses to Winter Temperature Variability in Birds.” The research is under the direction of College of Health Sciences Assistant Professor Yufeng Zhang.
