WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a grant of $500,500 and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $308,000, both to study tauopathies. The grants are from the National Institute on Aging. Tauopathies are a group of progressive neurodegenerative disorders defined by the presence of tau protein aggregates in the brain.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, noted Justice Stephen Breyer's announcement that he will retire at noon today, as the Supreme Court completes its term, and made the following statement:

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $999,861 for nursing education, practice, quality and retention from the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of U.S. Health Resources and Services.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $39,786 from the National Science Foundation supporting a project entitled "Collaborative Research: P2C2 – Medieval to Modern Climate Variability and Climate Change in the Great Plains" under the direction of Earth Sciences Professor Dorian Burnette.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Co-Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission, has introduced a resolution condemning Russian actions in Ukraine as a genocide under applicable international laws.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today voted on compromise gun legislation after it passed the Senate with Republican support.

The vote on passage was 234 to 193.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that 13 more of his Community Projects totaling $22,595,000 have received the green light from two more Appropriations subcommittees. On Thursday, he announced two projects totaling $1,173,332 have received Appropriations subcommittee recommendations. All of his projects have been recommended for funding.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today commended the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch for reaffirming the commitment of Congress to reducing plastic waste, including from plastic straws and other single-use plastics, which he advocated for and the Subcommittee agreed to the first time in July 2020.
