MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Bridge Builders will receive a grant of $214,981 and City Year Memphis will receive a grant of $1,123,200 supporting their work with students from AmeriCorps, the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps and other national service programs. In addition, Volunteer Tennessee, the state service commission, will also receive $3,272,078 in formula funding, which will in turn be awarded to state organizations to support additional AmeriCorps members in the coming months.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the Natural Resources Committee, today introduced the Benton MacKaye Scenic Trail Act, linking Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina over 287 scenic miles of mountains, valleys, forests and waterfalls. The trail, on federal land for 95 percent of its length, would be administered by the National Forest Service.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act which will lower costs by preventing oil companies from raising prices in an excessive or exploitative way. Congressman Cohen noted that the top five oil companies have announced profits of $35 billion in the past three months.
The vote on passage was 217 to 207.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today managed the House floor debate on H.R. 6943, the Public Safety Officer Support Act, and H.R. 2992, the Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Law Enforcement Training Act. He also managed the floor debate on a resolution condemning rising antisemitism.
