WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) and 15 cosponsors today introduced the Prohibit Wildlife Killing Contests Act to stop the practice of rewarding hunters for killing animals on public land in contests that serve no legitimate wildlife-management purpose.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"America's wildlife all play a special role in the natural ecosystem and killing them for what some deem ‘sport' is both cruel and unnecessary. These contests serve no legitimate wildlife-management purpose and ending them is the right thing to do."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today presided at a hearing on Enhancing the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938. The act requires agents or lobbyists for a "foreign principal" to register with the Department of Justice and provide certain documentary information about their relationships with foreign interests.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today spoke in favor of and voted for the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act. The measure removes cannabis from the list of federal controlled substances, raises revenue from sales to reinvest in communities disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs and expunges the records of federal criminal marijuana offenses.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (TN-09) and U.S. Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado today introduced the Restorative Practices in Schools Act, legislation to help schools and districts build safe, inclusive learning environments and to encourage the use of restorative practices in place of overly harsh punitive discipline policies, like "zero tolerance," which often result in disproportionate punishment for minor infractions.
