WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today held a Congressional Lunch Briefing on Infant Mortality with film producer Tonya Lewis Lee and spoke at a Congressional Black Caucus health care forum with Congressman John Conyers (D-MI-14). Congressman Cohen’s office coordinated the Capitol Hill infant mortality briefing with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital a grant worth $709,574 for research into the regulation of lipid metabolism in bacteria. The new federal funding will be distributed by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIMGS).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital a federal grant worth $393,750 for research into the role Coenzyme A plays in the regulation of human metabolism. The award will be distributed by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today reintroduced legislation – the American Coastal Waters and Shorelines Protection Act – to require all vessels conducting offshore drilling in U.S. coastal waters to register as a U.S. vessel and fly the American flag. Doing so would create jobs, strengthen the domestic maritime industry and safeguard American workers and the environment.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the city of Memphis $3 million in Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration funds to perform lead hazard reduction activities and coordinate with community partners to educate, train and mitigate lead concerns in housing units. The program will evaluate 350 homes for lead paint hazards and eliminate lead hazards in 220 homes.
