“When we were formulating the stimulus package, our biggest priority was to put money into the hands of people who needed it most and get it back into the economy as quickly as possible,” said Congressman Cohen. “These stimulus payments to seniors, disabled veterans and SSI recipients do just that. Combined with the middle class tax cut that is part of the recovery package, we’re putting more money where it does the most good: in the pockets of millions of Americans.”
The hearing featured the following witnesses: Michael D. Donovan, Esq., National Association of Consumer Advocates, Richard H. Frankel, Esq., Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law, Christopher R. Drahozal, Esq., University of Kansas School of Law and David Arkush, Esq., a consumer advocate.
“Today, we celebrate the importance of Hispanics in this country, specifically the contributions Mexican Americans have made and continue to make and how their achievements strengthen our nation,” said Congressman Cohen. “For Mexico, Cinco de Mayo has become a symbol of unity and patriotism in its history. In the United States, it is also a celebration of the rich cultural heritage Mexican Americans have brought to this country.”
“When so many American families are struggling to make ends meet, consumers who play by the rules deserve to be treated fairly by their credit card companies,” said Congressman Cohen. “That’s what the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights is all about: fairness.”
