WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) has written to David Connor, general manager of Sterilization Services of Tennessee (SST), seeking the company’s swift reduction in toxic ethylene oxide emissions from its facility in Memphis. The chemical is used to sterilize medical equipment and was last year determined to be more hazardous than previously known.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Ranking Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, and Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut today introduced the Safe Seats for All Act, establishing an interim moratorium on the reduction of aircraft passenger seat sizes, widths and lengths until the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) promulgates a final rule on the minimum dimensions necessary to ensure the health and safety of passengers.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today spoke from the House floor in favor of the debt ceiling compromise, despite some provisions he doesn’t like, and then voted for it. While there was much in the measure that he didn’t like, such as a rollback of environmental regulations and added work requirements for SNAP recipients, he said, “As Members of Congress, we have tough decisions to make.”

One grant, for $148,020, will underwrite collaborative research uncovering and enhancing pathways to psychological safety at work for racial minority women under the direction of Associate Professor of Management Kristen P. Jones. The second grant, for $593,248, supports super-resolution 3D ultrasound imaging of brain activity under the direction of Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering Carl D.
